We Love to Create

CONCEPT

The Bradford Community Center is designed as a contemporary, sustainable civic hub. The concept balances a durable, monolithic presence with strategic details to feel inviting. Its primary goal is to foster community engagement and act as a model for modern, energy-efficient public architecture. This includes the planned incorporation of solar panels on the roof to significantly reduce its operating energy consumption. modernistic framework.

The building features bold, interlocking geometric massing over two stories, with a larger volume at the rear for major facilities. The overall scale is substantial, conveying permanence. A prominent design element is the dramatic cantilevered roof above the main entrance. This signature feature provides shelter and clearly marks the entry, adding a dynamic, welcoming lift to the otherwise strong rectilinear form.

FRONT FACADE

The façade utilizes a contrast of materials to create visual interest. The majority is clad in a textured, light-grey concrete or block, establishing a stable, modern base. This is sharply contrasted by a vertical section of weathering steel (Corten-style), which introduces a warm, rusted-metal texture. Large, regularly spaced rectangular windows ensure the interior receives ample natural light, contributing to both the aesthetic and the building's sustainable performance.

The material palette—concrete, weathering steel, and extensive glazing—is chosen for its durability and low maintenance. Detailing is minimalist, with recessed ribbon lighting tracing the rooflines to highlight the geometry at night. Sustainably, the heavy concrete provides passive thermal mass, and the large windows maximize daylighting. The commitment to environmental stewardship is further affirmed by the plan for roof-mounted solar panels, which will generate renewable energy and lower the building's overall carbon footprint.
